A collaboration led by Skylight Trust in partnership with Film for Change Aotearoa, has led to the development and delivery of a unique film engagement project. The project was funded by Te Puni Kōkiri.
The Wellbeing Film Project involved more than 180 students from seven intermediate schools in Aotearoa/New Zealand. The students were supported to safely explore the theme: "How can I support someone who is going through a tough time." The students then took that learning and created a fictional narrative that showed the different ways young people can be there for each other. They worked in front of and behind the camera. They experienced 'hands-on' use, of all the technical equipment, and learned about the various roles, responsibilities and stages, of film production.
The finished short films reflect their stories, told in their words, and are shown in ways that were meaningful for them.
Films may depict incidents of bullying and behaviour that some children may find distressing. Parental Guidance is recommended.
