Children's support groups

Our support groups help young people aged 6-12 years old to understand and express their experiences in a supportive, practical and interactive environment.

Groups aim to build resilience by normalising the child/children's experiences, their responses to them, and processing feelings and learning coping strategies, for when they are faced with challenging situations.

Current Groups

Matika - Matika provides an opportunity for children who have experienced the death of someone close to them to connect with others in their own age group, who are experiencing a similar loss. Together the children learn about the big emotions of grief, ways to cope with the loss and ways they can continue to feel close to the person who has died. The programme is run by trained facilitators who guide the children through a range of age-appropriate activities. Each group meets weekly, for eight weeks. To express interest in your child attending or your interest in the programme being delivered in other areas of Aotearoa New Zealand, email [email protected]

Tai-Oranga Mental Agility & Resilience Workshop - currently this workshop is only available in Wellington region schools and caters for students in years 3 to 6. The four hour workshop is facilitated by Skylight counsellors. For more information please contact [email protected]
