Skylight Trust CE Heather Henare awarded for dedication

The Skylight Trust is delighted that Chief Executive Heather Henare has been recognised for her outstanding dedication to the rights of women and children. Skylight Trust Chair Jim Donovan says Heather’s recognition as one of Zonta New Zealand’s 50 Women of Achievement is well-deserved.

“Heather’s passion and dedication to helping New Zealanders through tough times is an inspiration.”

Heather Henare has worked for many years with families and children, first at Child, Youth and Family, then for almost a decade at the helm of Women’s Refuge, before taking on the role of Skylight Chief Executive last year.

Skylight supports children, young people, their family/ whanau and friends to navigate through times of trauma, loss and grief. The trust offers counselling support, information, and guidance through troubled times and supports over 16,000 New Zealanders each year.

“Heather has made a difference in the area of family violence, and now at Skylight, she is continuing to make a difference to children and families facing all kinds of trauma, loss and grief.

“I am confident she will continue to take a lead in speaking up for New Zealanders facing tough times,” said Mr Donovan.

Heather Henare says she is humbled to be acknowledged alongside many other outstanding New Zealand women on International Women’s Day.

“Skylight is a small but important part of the not-for-profit support structure that New Zealanders rely on when the going gets tough. For myself and I’m sure others working in the not-for-profit sector, it’s good to see recognition of the contribution our sector makes to the well-being of New Zealand.”
