Professional Development and Training

Skylight's workshops provide professional development for those who are working in environments where they are supporting children, young people, families, whānau and communities through challenging life events and crises.

The following are some examples of topics we deliver:

  • trauma

Trauma Workshop Series 2018

Facilitator: Chris Bowden (Ph.D Health), MA, BA (Hons I)

These workshops are offered to professionals working with clients who have experienced trauma, exploring different facets of trauma and how to support people to promote wellbeing. The workshops build on one another, but you may choose which workshops you are interested in and are not obligated to attend all three.

Workshop I (Half day)

Trauma Awareness: Understanding Trauma

Date:   15 February 2018 
Time:   9:30am - 12:30pm
Venue:   Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club,  11 Logan Street, Upper Hutt
Cost:   Free

This workshop aims at improving trauma awareness, and is an introduction to working with those who have experienced trauma.

Becoming Trauma Informed

Date:   22 February 2018

Venue:   Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Club,  11 Logan Street, Upper Hutt
Cost:   Free

This workshop aims to help professional services and staff move towards becoming trauma informed in the way they support clients who have experienced trauma.

Workshop III (Full day)

Working with Trauma

Date:   1 March 2018
Time   9:30am - 3:30pm
Venue:   Skylight Trust,  Level 3, 5-7 Vivian Street, Wellington
Cost:   $120

This workshop has a clinical focus, and explores how counsellors and therapists can work effectively with people who have experienced trauma.
