Helping children cope with Loss and Grief Awareness Week 2016

The Skylight Trust is asking for your help to provide support and counselling to New Zealanders young people and children going through difficult times.
Tomorrow (Monday 25 July) marks the start of Loss and Grief Awareness Week, which Skylight Chief Executive Heather Henare is a time to think about the powerful impact that loss and grief can have on the lives of children, young people, families and wh
nau and the wider community.

Heather says: “We support over 16,000 New Zealanders a year through trauma of all kinds but we know many others miss out on valuable counselling and support because they can’t afford it. This week we are giving New Zealanders the opportunity to help us make a difference by contributing to the Flashlight Fund, which pays for counselling for those who can’t pay, or by donating books and resources through our online shop.” “We’re also running a fun auction where people can bid to have lunch with a well-known New Zealander.”

Lunch dates include comedians Mike King, Jeremy Elwood and Michele A’Court, acting greats Dame Kate and Miranda Harcourt, union leader Helen Kelly, philanthropist Gareth Morgan, documentary maker Bryan Bruce, drag artist Amanduh La Whore and Skylight Trust patrons Louise Nicholas, Judy Bailey and Kerry Prendergast and Skylight’s CEO Heather Henare. For those with a political bent, there’s a chance to bid for lunch with Labour leader Andrew Little, MP Louisa Wall, Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, or Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett, or former MP Georgina Beyer.
